I have been reflecting recently on what truly matters. When we cross that significant milestone of retirement or just simply have to move on from one stage of life to another what do you remember most or what matters most? I also thought of, when I am no longer here what happens to my things? Will there be anyone here looking at my things and thinking, I remember the lady who owed these? It sounds somewhat of a morbid thought but I find it interesting how people use or misuse the things of someone that passed away. Have you ever noticed that all of a sudden the things that were once cherished have suddenly, somehow, lost value. The thing is, while we are going through the journey of life the things that are super important are literally the things; owning the house, the nice car, the good quality clothes and shoes, the best that life has to offer. Yet when we get to the end or close to the end we reminisce on the experiences, the people we knew, our family, the relationships the places we visited and those who shared those moments. Time also becomes important because new life begins and you want to be a part of it yet you're not sure there will be enough time.
I once spoke to a friend who was dying, and he knew it. I found our last conversation profound. He said he could not remember why he was always hurrying. He also told me I was stressed by work because of one thing - perspective. He said, perspective was a hell of a thing because in his bed, in his current state, all he wanted was time. Time to see his daughter graduate university, time to meet his grandchild as his daughter in law was pregnant. Work didn't matter anymore, deadlines were of no significance, he just wanted more time with his family and those he loved. He never once mentioned his things.
Don't misunderstand me, nice things are great to have and they make our time here much more comfortable and enjoyable. However, in living this life we should always remember what they are, just things! Use them, enjoy them, even take care of them but never let things get in the way of the relationships, the experiences, love, our quality of life. Never let things get between us or ruin a moment. Always remember that things are replaceable, relationships are not.
If you are able to buy nice things, buy them and experience them, take care of them and share them. Don't take the lovely things you have for granted either, value them but don't let them define your value or worth. Know the difference. Don't feel guilty for having nice things but don't become superior. Have dreams and aspirations and strive towards them, live and live the best you can! In living, in owning, in accumulating, in acquiring remember the relationships, the affairs of the heart, remember kindness and remember the source. For it is only by God's grace.

Such a word in season
Blessings
